Current gambling legislation predates the introduction of the internet so organisations wishing to raise funds through online raffles/prize draws (known as lotteries) are restricted from doing so.
The move will open up an important fundraising stream for many organisations including charities, voluntary groups and sports clubs.
The Minister said, “During this past year with all the public health restrictions in place, I have been greatly impressed at how quickly local sports clubs and voluntary groups mobilised to help those people in our communities who were shielding, vulnerable or isolated.
“These groups are the backbone of our society and I am immensely proud and grateful to them for all their efforts.
Man dies in south Armagh house fire The NIFRS said a man died and a woman was taken to hospital
A MAN has lost in his life in a house fire in south Armagh.
A woman was also treated in hospital for smoke inhalation following the blaze on Forkhill Road in Cloughoge.
The fire broke out at the detached property on Friday afternoon, but details only emerged today. Two fire appliances attended the scene of the blaze before it was brought under control.
The name or age of the man who died have not been released.
In a statement, the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) said the cause of the blaze was believed to be accidental ignition .
35 year old driver detected driving wrong way on major road A COUNTY Fermanagh woman detected driving the wrong way on a major road with almost triple the legal alcohol limit in her system was aggressive when spoken to by police, replying “blah, blah blah” after caution. Kellie Grimes (35), from Cloy Road, Ederney, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and after consuming excess alcohol as well as failing to provide a specimen of breath. She appeared before Newry Magistrate Court, which heard reports were received on the manner of her driving just after 9pm on July 25 last. A vehicle had been spotted travelling the wrong way on the A1, Newry before making a U-turn.

Health Minister Robin Swann has announced a £4.4m grant scheme for community and voluntary sector organisations offering support to carers, who he described as the backbone of society .
In January, Mr Swann announced a one-off grant payment for carers but said it will be significantly more complex to administer than recent one-off payments made to other groups .
